Use a Raspberry Pi to Make a Police Scanner Radio
It might surprise you to learn that it is completely legal to listen to official police scanner radio transmissions in the United States. There is even a hobbyist community dedicated to exactly that, which is full of people who find it interesting to hear what the police are up to as they go about responding to crimes and other dispatches. Some states do have a couple of limitations, such as listening while driving or while committing a crime. But as long as you’re just listening at home, it’s legal in every state. If you want to do that yourself, YouTuber Kevin Darrah has a guide on how to use a Raspberry Pi to build an inexpensive police scanner.
Bending Thick Steel with 3D Printed Tools – Prusa PLA
The strongest tools from this video were printed with a Prusa i3 MK3s using standard PLA. I printed 12 perimeters with 20% gyroid infill at 0.2mm layer height. If you’re interested in reading about what experts in the field have to say about this, check out these two articles:

Tabletop Japanese Shoji Lanterns
New versions of the Japanese mini lamps I made a while ago. Frame and dimensions are almost the same, but I have added a USB LED lighting circuit so they can be lit from any laptop, phone charger etc and placed on a desk or any suitable space.
Screaming Pumpkin 3h DIY project [Arduino, ESP32, RGB, Audio, PIR]
In this quick maker project the pumpkin gets some basic electronics that have some animated RGB LED lights a motion detection sensor and sound. It detects if trick-or-treaters are approaching the house and plays a scary scream and flashes the lights. It’s really rewarding for such a quick projects that can be built easily with kids. All is controlled by the esp32 microcontroller that can be uploaded with the code linked below from the Arduino IDE. All the other parts are simply attached without much effort. The electronics can be easily applied to other Holiday projects. Have Fun!
3D Printed Tourbillon Mechanical Clock
Video documentation of the design and assembly of a fully functional 3D printed mechanical clock with a single axis Tourbillon escapement at 12 o’clock position.
The design motivation is to create an open structure to showcase all the inner working components of a mechanical clock while keeping symmetry in check.
97% Efficient DC to DC Buck Converter [3A, Adjustable]
A tiny DC to DC buck converter board is useful for many applications, especially if it could deliver currents up to 3A.
Design & Cast your own Hotend Silicone Socks!
I love E3Ds silicone socks but already had them ruin quite some prints of mine. In today’s video I’ll improve the existing design, create a 3D printed 5-part silicone mold in Autodesk Fusion 360 and then cast new socks using high temperature 2-part silicone.
Raspberry Pi 4 Gets an Update
The Raspberry Pi 4 is arguably the best piece of hardware ever released by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Looking at the specs and different Ram options it is easy to see why the Raspberry Pi 4 is head and shoulders above the other Raspberry Pi boards. The Raspberry Pi 4 was not without issues however but in the normal fashion, the Raspberry Pi Foundation has been hard at work fixing those issues through software and firmware updates.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation this week released updated firmware for the Raspberry Pi 4 which has been in testing since July. This new firmware helps the Raspberry Pi 4 run cooler and adds a network boot option.
