Sony’s PS5 ‘Reveal’ Is Over – And Boy, Was It a Disaster
Sony’s PlayStation 5 “reveal” event was a sleep-inducing 50 minutes of utter boredom. It’s hard to imagine how it could have gone worse.
- Today’s PS5 “reveal” event turned out to be a 50-minute lecture aimed at developers.
- The sleep-inducing presentation appears to have been initially scheduled for GDC2020 before the event was canceled.
- Not only did Mark Cerny drone on for 50 minutes about the same three things, but we still didn’t learn anything about the PS5’s “killer features.”
Well, that was disappointing. After months of waiting for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) reveal, Sony delivered one of the most boring and utterly pointless events imaginable.
Mark Cerny basically got up on stage and gave a talk aimed solely at game developers. That would have been fine at GDC, where he planned to present it. But Sony talked today’s event up as a gamer-focused PS5 unveiling.
So hundreds of thousands of people tuned in, expecting to finally get some information about the console. Instead, all we got was a bunch of pointless tech speak.

Atari Shock – The Video Game Market Crash of 1983
1982. The game developer Atari is huge. By introducing swappable game cartridges with its VCS console and riding high on the back of a license of Taito’s Space Invaders, Atari had helped make home console gaming massive. This is the story of how it all came crashing down. This is the story of the Atari Shock.

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X probably puts your gaming PC to shame: Full specs revealed
Microsoft fully pulled back the curtain on the hardware powering the Xbox Series X on Monday, going deep in both an Xbox blog and an inside look provided to Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry. The disclosures didn’t divulge much beyond what we already knew or could discern but made one thing abundantly clear: Microsoft’s next-gen console will put most gaming PCs to shame.
We knew that the Xbox Series X would feature AMD’s kick-ass Ryzen CPU cores, but now we know it’s the full monty. The console will come with an 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen implementation, running at a locked clock speed. That clock speed will vary depending on whether game developers want to tap into all those threads, or decide to stick to the eight physical cores alone for slightly faster single-thread performance. The chip will run at 3.8GHz if a game sticks to the physical CPU cores, or 3.66GHz if developers open up the full 16 threads.

This genius created a Switch dock with fully integrated GameCube controller ports
Not all heroes wear capes.
Although the creator of the blog “Built by Brock” isn’t going to go to your house and make this device at-will, the fact that it exists makes me happy. Yep, it’s a GameCube remote adapter that’s been fully integrated, seamlessly I might add, into the Switch dock: the four controller ports sit nicely in the open space on the back of the dock, where you plug the inputs in.

Nintendo Of America Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19
After delaying game releases and shutting down this year’s E3, the coronavirus outbreak has now hit Nintendo of America’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The Seattle Times is reporting a Nintendo employee has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and has also been in contact with other staff members.
The video game company reportedly confirmed this on Thursday evening. All Nintendo employees in contact with this individual are now in self-quarantine, whether they have symptoms or not. Here’s a direct statement from NoA:
Nintendo of America is supporting this individual as they recover and will continue to take precautions to safeguard the health and well-being of all our employees and the broader community
As stated last week, Nintendo is now allowing all of its staff located within the states of California and Washington to work from home.

Nintendo Switch Online is good, but it needs N64 games to be great
Nintendo doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to online gaming. It’s hard to know exactly why the company has never reached the heights of PS Plus or Xbox Live, but the fact that Sony and Microsoft got there first probably played a part. Nintendo, generally, likes to be an originator.
With Nintendo Switch Online though, this appears to be changing. But, to really take the fight to its competitors, it needs one thing: N64 game support.
