PostHeaderIcon Page layout changes

I've made a few slight changes to the layout of the webpage, most are located on the top menu bar.

Weblinks have been removed, Forums have been removed (with the exception of CoinFX forums) and Project Logs have been added.

All news submissions are being converted over to a new catagorization style allowing review of each projects posting under the Project Logs section.

Since I did remove the WebLinks, I've been putting together a Banners section that will load a banner from the old weblinks section. These are not ads, I'm not getting paid for these. These are all pages I visit and have used in my projects.

PostHeaderIcon WRT54G2 a third WDS router

Well my neighbor was tossing away his "borken" WRT54G2 v1 router... Of course I offered to take it off his hands =)

Oddly enough with a hard reset it came back online. So I decided to toss DD-WRT on it and add it to the existing WDS farm.

I now have 3 Linksys WRT routers operating with WDS.

1 - Basement (Above the server rack)

2 - Living Room (Where I spend most of my time)

3 - Bed Room (I plan on moving this one for better distrobution)

I also currently have 1 Microsoft MN500 running my WiFi DMZ and an un-used Cisco Airnet WiFi AP that I still need to configure.

PostHeaderIcon Camera System in place

Well I finally settled on a controller card and a couple security cameras to beef up my set up.

I picked out an RapidOS RW-1120R 4 Channel Video/Audio with 120FPS total (most "budget 4 channel cards I found only did 30FPS total).

I've been fairly happy with the card thus far. I'm currently only running 2 cameras, but will fill the other 2 channels soon enough.

The cameras I settled on for watching the front and back yard are LTS LTCB246VMB10.

These puppies have 480 TV Scan lines, 36 IR LEDs for night vision, and a Varifocal lense (adjustable Zoom and Focus). For the price I couldn't be happier, night vision does have a bit of noice i nthe picture but with just a dim amount of light the video looks excelent.

As soon as I have more time I will post demo pics of the camera at different times to show the quality.

As for sofware, sadly the RapidOS card was not supported by ActiveWeb Cam, though it did come with it's own RapidOS software that functions just as well.

Once I install the remaining cameras and tweak my config I'll include more information.

Here's a quick view from the Garage LTS LTCB246VMB10 camera. I must admit I'm very happy with the camera!

PostHeaderIcon Home Security Project

Well, the time has come to dive into the world of home security and surveillance.

I wanted to start with a PoC, so I grabbed my Dell PowerEdge 1800 and tossed in an old Hauppauge WinTV 878 tuner card.

I spent some time testing out a few software package options. The 2 I liked the most being;

Activeweb Cam

Security Monitor Pro

Security Monitor Pro worked really well, cept they drop support for hardware based cameras in the newer versions (4.1..etc)

So I opted for an older version of Activeweb Cam.

I ran some "homebrew" cat5 that I rigged RCA and Power at each end and connected it to a cam that came with my old Hauppauge card. Amazingly enough the cam is 30FPS 520TV line with Varifocul lense... I may end up moving this into the garage when I replace it with a proper exterior camera.

Now that I've got a good idea of what I want to do, let the ordering begin.

First I'm grabbing a RapidOS RW-1120R 4 channgel PCI DVR card. This is still a low range card, I found it for $85. But why this card?

I was wanting to stay entry level with all of this, this card was the seemed to give the most bang for a buck.

4 Channel with 120FPS max across all channels (yes 30 per cam, rather than most of the cheaper cards only support 30FPS max, thus 7.5FPS on 4 cams).

4 Channel audio. I may only use audio for the front door... but you never know, and now I'll have it.

I'm in the process of picking out some starter camers, once I iron out all the details I'll be sure to post a full parts list
